The Details

The Safari Golfer offers a Signature Journey, entirely South African and built around golf. It also offers Wild Journeys, a pure safari option taking clients into some of the most beautiful wild places on the continent, across South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Both exist as lookbook journeys, proven and refined because they work, though neither is a fixed package: every journey starts with a conversation and is built out from there.

A Host, not a Tour Company

Founder Matt McCreedy’s own path to this idea started long before there was a business attached to it: childhood holidays spent in Botswana’s bush, hospitality training in Switzerland, and a career built across Singita, Wilderness Mombo, and Aman before he set out on his own. That background is the reason The Safari Golfer describes itself the way it does: we are not a tour company, we are your host, and the distinction matters. A tour company hands you a plan and steps back. A host plays the round with you: Matt and his team know these courses well enough to walk a guest through the break in a green, the line off a blind tee, the piece of local knowledge that separates a good score from a frustrating one.

The same holds in the bush. Matt and his team have stayed in these camps themselves, know the staff there by name, and understand the rhythm of the bush well enough to know exactly when the light is right for the kind of sundowner that only works at one specific moment, in one specific place. It is this, on the fairway and in the bush alike, that The Safari Golfer considers the real difference between a host and an operator.

The Signature Journey

The Signature Journey is fifteen nights across four South African destinations: Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Fancourt, and Sabi Sands, capped at eight guests and run only twice a year. Golf runs through the whole route rather than one leg of it: Pearl Valley in the Cape Winelands, then Fancourt, where the golf itself takes it up a level, and finally Leopard Creek, played during the stay at Singita Sabi Sands itself, close enough to Kruger that a round there sits naturally alongside the game drives. The Safari Golfer describes the progression simply: the Cape opens the senses, and the Winelands sharpen them, before the bush gives you something no city, course, or cellar ever could. Wild Journeys

Where the Signature Journey holds golf and wilderness in balance, Wild Journeys drops golf entirely. No fairways, no familiar benchmarks, just what the company calls Africa’s last great wildernesses, reached at an unhurried pace and designed entirely around the traveller rather than a fixed departure date. The journeys currently anchor the offering: The Okavango, in Botswana’s delta; The Cape, the Kalahari, and Castleton; Primates and Plains, spent with Rwanda’s mountain gorillas and Tanzania’s plains; and Rwanda Revealed, across Rwanda’s wilderness for Big Five game viewing, finished with time among the mountain gorillas. Every one of them runs on the same four principles the company builds Wild Journeys around: nature, hosting, conservation, and design built entirely around the client.

Club Professionals

Alongside the Signature and Wild Journeys sits Club Professionals. The Safari Golfer welcomes conversations with private and municipal golf clubs alike, working directly through their club professionals to arrange club-specific journeys. A professional can travel with a group of members to South Africa and experience the country’s courses, wine estates, and safari camps together. The Safari Golfer handles everything from tee times and table reservations to transfers, hosting the trip alongside the club professional throughout.

Where Your Presence Has a Purpose

A portion of every journey goes toward conservation and community projects the company considers close to its heart, including the Cape Leopard Trust, which has worked since 2004 to protect leopards and predator diversity in the Western Cape, fittingly the same animal that gave The Safari Golfer its own emblem, and The Lunchbox Fund, which provides daily, nutritionally fortified meals to food-insecure schoolchildren across South African townships and rural communities.
