Luxuria Lifestyle reviews The Kingshead Hotel Cirencester
Tucked right in the centre of Cirencester, the Kings Head Hotel is the kind of place that instantly sets the tone for a proper Cotswolds escape. With its seamless mix of pub, brasserie, boutique bedrooms and versatile event spaces, it manages to feel both lively and relaxed – somewhere you can settle into for the evening or base yourself for a weekend of exploring.
From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and easy, setting the pace for the rest of the stay. The hotel itself carries that classic Cotswolds charm, but what really stood out was the décor: cosy fireplaces, rich textures and an effortlessly stylish countryside aesthetic that makes you want to linger a little longer. It strikes that perfect balance between traditional character and contemporary polish without ever feeling overdone.
One of the standout features of the Kings Head is that no two bedrooms are the same. Each space has its own personality, blending original period and architectural details – think exposed beams and open fireplaces – with modern, considered interiors. We stayed in one of the Junior Suites, tucked away in the Georgian part of the building, and it truly felt like a highlight. High ceilings and large sash windows flood the room with natural light, while front-facing views stretch across the Market Place towards the striking Church of St John the Baptist. The suite itself was spacious and elegant, but the freestanding bath was the real showstopper – perfect for unwinding after a day spent exploring the Cotswolds.
Dinner in the brasserie was just as memorable. The menu leans into hearty classics done well – comforting, generous dishes that hit the mark after a day outdoors. On weekends, the atmosphere lifts even further with live music in the bar, adding a lively, sociable energy that makes the space feel like more than just a hotel restaurant. It’s somewhere locals and guests alike gather, which always says a lot.
Location-wise, you couldn’t ask for better. Sitting in the very heart of the Cotswolds, you’re surrounded by postcard-perfect villages, scenic countryside walks and charming independent shops, all within easy reach. Whether you’re wandering through Cirencester’s historic streets or venturing further afield, the hotel makes an ideal base.
It’s also easy to see why Kings Head Cirencester has become such a sought-after wedding and events venue. From intimate celebrations to larger receptions – and even livelier gatherings in the atmospheric cellars – the setting lends itself beautifully to special occasions. There’s a sense of history and character here, paired with just the right amount of buzz.
All in all, Kings Head Hotel Cirencester delivers on every level: stylish, individual rooms, a genuinely welcoming feel, great food, and a vibrant atmosphere. It’s one of those places that not only captures the spirit of the Cotswolds but also makes you want to return to it.
