Luxuria’s Sam Mead reviews La VueltaBoutique Hotel & Restaurant
Hidden just beyond the well-trodden paths of the Spanish countryside, in a 125-year-old farmhouse (a “finca” to the locals), La Vuelta represents a boutique hotel experience shaped not by scale or spectacle, but by spirit and heart. Quietly confident, thoughtfully intimate, and unmistakably personal, it is an escape that reveals its charm in a way that feels effortless and unhurried.
A Boutique Escape Where Silence Becomes a Luxury
What sets La Vuelta apart reveals itself almost immediately: its stillness. This is boutique hospitality in its purest form—not a resort, not a polished chain, but a lovingly restored farmhouse where time slows, comforts deepen, and the experience feels almost private by design.
During our stay, we were the only guests for the week. What could have felt eerie in lesser hands became something beautifully rare: it felt like the hotel existed just for us. Every corner was ours to explore, every quiet moment felt intentional.
La Vuelta doesn’t operate with 24/7 reception desks or concierge hotlines. Instead, everything is arranged in advance with such care that you never feel the absence of those things. Owners Sam and Hein, originally from the Netherlands, are thoughtful, warm, and wonderfully hands-on hosts in the truest sense of the word.
After our early 6 am flight, they opened the hotel just so we could drop off our bags, arranged our taxi to the nearest beach, and gently soothed my tired little girl with apple juice, biscuits, and an introduction to Maxi, the resident cat. Small gestures, but deeply human ones—the moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.
Realising we had underestimated just how remote the farmhouse was, Sam and Hein immediately stepped in, helping us look into car hire so we could explore more easily. But for a peaceful break, it would be easy to stay put, relaxing by the pool, reading on the daybeds, or dining outdoors in the poolside outhouse, which invites long, easy family dinners under open sky.
The tranquillity of the setting quickly sets the rhythm of each day. Mornings began slowly, with nothing but birdsong and the soft rustle of leaves moving across the courtyard. Even the sunlight felt different here—gentler, warmer. There was no pressure to “do” anything, no expectation to fill the hours; La Vuelta encourages you simply to be present. It’s the kind of environment that resets your internal tempo without you even noticing.
Over the past 20 years, Sam and Hein have shaped La Vuelta into something truly personal—part home, part retreat, part community gathering place.
Rooms That Feel Designed Not Just to Stay In, but to Live In
With only six rooms and apartment-style spaces, La Vuelta feels more like an elegant countryside villa than a traditional hotel.
Our apartment was expansive—a separate kitchen and lounge, a serene bedroom, and two distinct bathroom spaces (one with a large walk-in shower spacious enough, quite literally, to swing a cat). For families, this layout is a gift. Children can sleep undisturbed while parents enjoy the quiet of the lounge or the garden patio. Early risers can make breakfast or work in the kitchen without waking anyone.
What elevates these rooms beyond typical boutique offerings is their sense of balance. Practicality sits comfortably alongside beauty. Every switch, surface, and furnishing seems placed with real consideration—from the generous floor space that allows families to move around comfortably to the thoughtful separation of living, sleeping, and bathing areas. It is rare to find a room that feels both luxurious and functional.
It’s the kind of space that accommodates life rather than dictating it, making it ideal for groups of friends or families to rent out collectively—villa-style living but with the added ease of a daily cleaner, a delivered breakfast, and an on-site restaurant.
Where Design Speaks in Textures, Light and Authenticity
Every element of La Vuelta feels intentional.
Not showy. Not overly styled. Simply thoughtful.
From the textured tiled bathroom walls to the oversized bulbous hanging lights—each operable individually to create the perfect evening glow—the interiors cultivate a cosy, homely warmth. The dark ceiling wraps the space in comfort; soft, thick bath mats greet your feet after a shower; and motion-sensor lighting in the toilet makes those midnight wanderings effortless.
Touches of the original farmhouse remain—a blue-green antique wardrobe, exposed stone walls—grounding the space in its history. Yet it harmonises beautifully with modern luxury: pampas grass, wicker lamps, sleek black kitchens with hidden appliances, and a freestanding bathtub paired with Rituals bath soak for long, indulgent evenings.
It’s luxury, yes—but with soul. A home away from home, elevated.
Breakfast: A Daily Discovery
Each evening, a Spanish-style continental breakfast is delivered ready for the next morning—charming in its simplicity, delightful in its variety. Every morning brought a new surprise: an adorable Kilner jar of Nutella (immediately claimed by my daughter), yoghurt and granola pots, assorted fruit. The daily reveal became one of her favourite rituals of the trip.
The beauty of this breakfast setup is that it allows guests to carve out their own pace for the day. No rushing to beat closing times, no need to dress or hurry—just a gentle start in the privacy of your own space. Whether eaten at the kitchen table or carried outside to enjoy in the morning sun, it feels slow, unforced, and quietly indulgent.
La Vuelta Restaurant: A Nightly Celebration of Food, Music and Community. If the hotel is a quiet sanctuary, the restaurant is its vibrant heartbeat.
Already twinkling with Christmas decorations during our stay, the space held the warm, bustling energy of a countryside pub in winter—cosy but full of life. StaK moved eKortlessly between tables, ensuring glasses were never empty, and the mix of local and international diners created a wonderfully eclectic buzz.
Each visit made one thing clear: the kitchen at La Vuelta is consistently impressive. There’s a depth of flavour that lingers in the air no matter the evening; I found myself walking past the kitchen simply to catch another breath of the barbecue scent drifting through the restaurant—an irresistible preview of what was being prepared.
What stood out evening after evening was just how busy the restaurant remained. For a rural venue, tucked far from main roads and city footfall, to be fully booked on weeknights in November is extraordinary. Yet La Vuelta seems to defy the usual seasonal lull. Locals, expats, and visitors made the eKort to drive out especially for dinner, filling the room with an energy that felt both unexpected and refreshing. Much of this international mix stems from Sam and Hein’s two decades of dedication; their Dutch roots naturally draw guests from nearby European communities. It’s not unusual to hear Scandinavian, Dutch, German, and British voices at neighbouring tables—even midweek, even in November. The remoteness becomes irrelevant when a place is this loved.
The Bella Luna Night: A Must-Experience
The highlight of our stay? The Bella Luna party night.
Hosted twice a month, these evenings are an event woven from good food, music, and community spirit. A three-course dinner, live music, dancing, singing—an atmosphere so electric it practically vibrates. They sell out weeks in advance, and for good reason: it’s a joyous, immersive night where strangers become friends, and the entire room becomes part of the performance.
A Team That Feels Like Family
The staff deserve the highest praise—not just for efficiency, but for genuine warmth. A slideshow displayed in the restaurant—a montage of years of shared moments between the team and the owners—said more than any marketing ever could. This is not a workplace; it’s a family.
A special mention must go to Alina, who has been with La Vuelta for 13 years. Her kindness toward my daughter—bringing snacks, showing her Christmas decorations, ensuring she was always happy—was nothing short of heartwarming.
These are the touches that turn a holiday into a memory.
A Hidden Gem in the Truest Sense
Driving down the unassuming road parallel to La Vuelta, you would never know it existed. Even local taxi drivers were surprised to discover it. But that’s exactly what makes it magical.
La Vuelta isn’t designed to shout for attention; it’s designed to reward those who seek something different—a rare blend of tranquillity and character, where quiet mornings by the pool, spirited evenings in the restaurant, thoughtful design, and genuine hospitality are woven into every part of the experience.
It is a hidden haven, a cherished escape, and a place where guests feel less like customers and more like part of an extended family.
