Mount Gay unveils two ultra-premium aged rums crafted in Barbados
Mount Gay has unveiled the launch of its prestigious new Exceptionally Aged Collection, featuring two rare expressions aged for 15 and 25 years.
Crafted and aged exclusively in Barbados, the collection draws on more than three centuries of expertise from the world’s oldest running rum distillery and offers collectors and connoisseurs the opportunity to experience some of Mount Gay’s most refined expressions.
Leading the collection is Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 25 (47% ABV), a single-batch rum distilled in 1999 in a single column still under the vigilant eye of then-Master Blender Jerry Edwards and aged for precisely 25 years exclusively in ex-American oak bourbon casks. Limited to only 2,376 bottles globally, it has aromas of vanilla and red fruits, complemented by rich caramel and harmoniously balanced with hints of citrus and dark chocolate.
Alongside it is Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 15 (43% ABV), a rum aged for a minimum of 15 years in ex-American oak bourbon casks, in Barbados’s warm, tropical climate, with aromas of zesty grapefruit, comforting buttery pastry, and tastes of butterscotch, vanilla, and caramel.
The Exceptionally Aged Collection brings together two rare, long-aged rums. Every drop is 100% distilled, matured, blended, and bottled at the Mount Gay distillery in St. Lucy, Barbados, imbued with the unique essence of our tropical island.
Designed to be sipped slowly, both rums are best enjoyed neat or on the rocks to allow drinkers to explore and savour their unique character. Exceptionally Aged 15 will roll out for Father’s Day, and Exceptionally Aged 25 will launch from July. The collections will be available through The Whiskey Exchange, Masters of Malt and select independent stores.
As the world’s oldest rum distillery, established in Barbados in 1703, Mount Gay brings centuries of expertise to its Exceptionally Aged collection.
“The Exceptionally Aged Collection is a profound tribute to the 320 years of heritage and to the generations of blenders before me who possessed the vision to lay down these incredible rums. With both the 15 and 25-year-old, we chose to honour the original vision by ageing them exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, resulting in a desired intensity and complexity that beautifully matches the heritage we are so proud to carry. These rums offer a taste as close to what comes directly from the barrel as possible, a perfect representation of our legacy and the unique tropical climate of Barbados,” says Master Blender Trudiann Branker.
