Our recent stay at The Westin Algarve was exceptional from start to finish and easily ranks among the finest hotel experiences we’ve had. As a team of six, we arrived and were greeted by an incredibly warm, professional, yet friendly team who made us feel welcome straight away. Every member of staff we encountered throughout our stay was genuinely committed to making sure we had the best possible experience. Their thoughtfulness was evident from the outset when they arranged an early check-in after learning we had travelled with golf bags, allowing us to settle in and relax before heading out for our first round of golf.

The accommodation exceeded all of our expectations. Our suites were beautifully designed, combining contemporary luxury with comfort and practicality. The spacious lounge area gave us the perfect spot to unwind after a day on the golf course, while the bedroom was just as impressive with an amazingly comfortable bed. We all slept like babies. The bathroom was finished to a very high standard with premium fittings,  fluffy towels and robes. Every detail throughout the suite reflected the quality you’d expect from a luxury resort. One of the standout features was the huge balcony, which covered the full length of the suite and offered plenty of space to sit back and enjoy the sunshine. We all enjoyed a post-golf beer on our individual balconies, replaying and discussing each hole, as only golfers do!

The facilities throughout the resort were equally impressive. Everything was immaculately maintained, from the beautifully landscaped gardens to the relaxing pool areas, providing a calm and luxurious vibe. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with friends for a golfing break, or as a family looking for a relaxing holiday, the hotel caters effortlessly to every type of guest.

Breakfast each morning was one of the highlights of our stay. The buffet offered an outstanding selection with something to suit every taste, from fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, and continental favourites to perfectly cooked hot breakfasts, including a full English, our go-to choice, ensuring maximum nutrients for our golf. There were also freshly prepared eggs, coffees, fresh juices, and plenty of healthy options. The quality of the ingredients was first-class, and everything was beautifully presented.

The evening dining experience was so memorable. The buffet changed regularly, offering a wide variety of freshly prepared dishes inspired by both local Portuguese cuisine and international favourites. Every meal felt different, with plenty of choices regardless. The freshness of the food, attention to detail, and quality of the ingredients really stood out, making dinner something to look forward to each evening, and we were a very hungry group of golfers!

A real highlight of the trip was playing at Salgados Golf Course. Set within a spectacular coastal landscape of natural lagoons, wetlands, and protected wildlife, the course offers some of the most picturesque scenery in the Algarve. It’s not unusual to spot flamingos and a variety of other birdlife during your round, adding to the unique setting

While visually stunning, Salgados is far from an easy round of golf. Water hazards come into play on many holes, demanding careful course management and accurate shot-making from tee to green. Positioning is far more important than power, and players who can keep the ball in play are rewarded. The fairways and tee boxes were presented in immaculate condition, while the greens were among the quickest and truest we’ve played, making putting both enjoyable and incredibly challenging. Every hole presents a different test, requiring golfers to think strategically rather than simply relying on distance. Personally, I found it to be one of those courses that rewards patience and good decision-making. It can be unforgiving if you get too aggressive, but that’s exactly what makes it such a satisfying and memorable round. We may need to play here again, practice makes perfect, as they say!

What makes Salgados particularly memorable is its variety. The layout never feels repetitive, with a fantastic mix of risk-and-reward opportunities, demanding approach shots, and memorable finishing holes. It provides an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities while still rewarding those who execute their shots well. It’s a course that stays in your memory long after the round has finished, and we would confidently rank it among the very best golf courses in the Algarve.

The combination of outstanding hospitality, luxurious accommodation, exceptional dining, first-class facilities, and world-class golf made this a truly unforgettable holiday. The Westin Algarve delivers a premium experience in every aspect, exceeding expectations at every opportunity.
