Roch Castle – a Luxury Castle Hotel In West Wales Hotel, St Davids
Is staying in a castle on your bucket list? Staying at Roch Castle is a unique experience like no other.
Roch Castle rests high above the landscape on its volcanic, rocky outcrop, providing 360-degree views of Pembrokeshire. The castle has been restored and transformed into a luxury hotel, offering five-star accommodation. Roch Castle is the definition of a unique stay in a spectacular location.
History
Roch Castle was built in the late twelfth century and holds over 800 years of history. The décor and interior represent this heritage beautifully, from the intricate detailing carved into the walls to the art and personal touches. Situated atop a hill, it provides breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and coast. The hotel has been exquisitely restored and renovated to deliver a unique and luxurious accommodation experience.
Rooms
Arriving at Roch Castle and driving through the automatic gates is enough to take your breath away. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm and welcoming staff, always on hand to assist with anything needed.
Roch Castle offers only six double en-suite bedrooms across four floors, plus a dining room, lounge, sun room, chapel, and fully equipped domestic kitchen. This creates an intimate experience, as it is unlikely you will encounter many other guests during your stay. The rooms are spacious, luxurious, and thoughtfully designed, with every detail crafted for comfort and relaxation. Elegantly decorated, they feature modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, high-speed Wi-Fi, and sumptuous bedding.
I was in awe of the stunning architecture and tasteful interior design. Historical touches adorn each floor, including an open view of the original stone structure, visible while enjoying breakfast.
Experiences
Roch Castle can be booked for exclusive gatherings and private celebrations for up to 12 family or friends on a self-catering basis. What truly sets it apart is the exceptional service. The staff are attentive, friendly, and always willing to go above and beyond—whether recommending local attractions, organising a private tour, or arranging a special surprise—to ensure your stay feels like home.
Food
The breakfast was particularly outstanding, served in a small, intimate setting within the castle. The chef uses the freshest local ingredients to create a mouth-watering menu showcasing Pembrokeshire’s finest cuisine. I especially loved the freshly baked pastries and locally sourced, hot-cooked breakfast options. Note that, besides breakfast, there are no on-site dining facilities. Guests can dine at the sister hotel, Twr Y Felin, or enjoy nearby local pubs—a delight, as we thoroughly enjoyed walking to one.
