For years, the men’s fashion brand SuitSupply has been crafting outfits tailor-made for casual luxury. Elegant, refined, wonderful and eloquently chic, this Amsterdam-based corporation is a staple of sophisticated men’s wardrobes, but with the current rise of old money aesthetics, social media promotions and contemporary Spring collections, they have practically cornered the market on vintage European menswear.

If you follow men’s fashion, you’ve probably noticed a shift in brands like Gucci and Prada toward progressive flashiness, with flowery and foppish elements that are closer to A-sexual than sexually attractive. In reality, what fashion-forward man would be caught wearing a skirt on a dinner date? While we see nothing wrong with progressive fashion—those genderless knits you might see David Bowie wearing in the 70’s—there is something endlessly eternal about a well-tailored suit. When I met with SuitSupply’s style professional in Century City, Los Angeles, I was immediately greeted by a formal array of wool fabrics, chic suits and crisp baggy trousers that popped with old money charm. Divided into sections, each showcasing a new collection, I was able to try on a plethora of outfits, each one more elegant than the next. From the Safari collection, boasting muted tones of tan, green and Milan-buttons that would be perfect for a Sahara excursion, to the Grey collection inspired by 90’s-era Armani, it’s clear the designers are going for a relaxed aesthetic where bold top pieces are dressed down with baggy chinos, sandals and loafers, reviving the Italian art of fusing dress casual with deluxe luxury.

Of course, the foundation of every outfit is the way it fits you. Every suit can be hand-crafted to your liking, while conventional sizes are offered as well. It’s rare to have fashion experts on site who have an eye for tailoring your outfit to perfection, making sure you’re the best-dressed man at the wedding, turning heads like Regan MacNeil in The Exorcist. Even more rare is to find a clothing brand rooted in vintage European aesthetics. Like Ralph Lauren and Loro Piani, Suitsupply doesn’t chase trends—rather, it luxuriates in the Capri breeze of everlasting, unvarnished, tried-and-true opulence.

Seasonal fabrics are key to staying comfortable year-round, utilising Italian wools, lines and cottons sewn with classic colourways like navy, grey, and black and lighter shades of pastel, yellow, tan and pink as seen in the seasonal summer collection. As my style expert explained, these splashes of colour provide ample opportunity to inject personality without overpowering the fit. You can always pair a turquoise top with a muted bottom, or vice versa, something Suitsupply does better than just about anyone out there.

None of this is going to be news to those tapped into Instagram men’s fashion, which has seen a rise of influencer collabs with Suitsupply in recent years, honing in on those old money reels where male models saunter through museums, dressed in tailored suits and mogging to the aching vocals of Lana Del Ray. In fact, this has only boosted business for Suitsupply, a brand that was way ahead of the anti-trend curve.
