The Cawdor – a fabulous hotel in the heart of Llandeilo, Wales
If you are looking for a luxurious staycation in a charming hotel set in the heart of the historic market town of Llandeilo, The Cawdor is the perfect choice!
Discovering Llandeilo
Llandeilo is a delightful market town to the east of Carmarthen. As you approach the River Tywi and the Llandeilo stone bridge (built in 1848), you will see the multi-coloured Edwardian and Georgian houses that line the street on the entrance to the town.
Award-Winning Excellence
The Cawdor is thrilled to be named in the Sunday Times Travel top 100 best hotels in Britain. As you approach The Cawdor, it’s hard to miss the bright red exterior of this 18th-century hotel in the market town of Llandeilo.
Arrival and Ambiance
Upon arrival at The Cawdor, you instantly experience a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comforts. Inviting leather sofas, an open fire, and vintage photographs documenting the hotel’s heritage adorn the bar, where friendly staff are always on hand to assist.
Parking is included during your stay and can be found at the back of the hotel. This is a welcome addition, as parking in Llandeilo can be challenging.
Luxurious Accommodations
Every bedroom is individually furnished for ultimate relaxation and comfort. The beds feature crisp white Egyptian cotton bedding, ensuring a perfect night’s sleep. The bathrooms are a highlight—spacious with a lovely bathtub, sink, and shower.
Complimentary Wi-Fi, tea and coffee-making facilities, and fresh cold water—replenished daily by housekeeping—are provided. This thoughtful touch was particularly appreciated during my visit amid warm weather.
The Cawdor offers 24 comfortable rooms and two penthouse apartments for those seeking extra space, ideal for family getaways or festive gatherings such as Christmas.
Exceptional Dining Experiences
Dining at The Cawdor is an absolute delight. The menu prioritises Welsh, seasonal produce, served in the dining room, bar, Cegin Cafe, or outdoor courtyard, depending on your preferred ambience and the weather. The flexibility is superb—I enjoyed both the elegant restaurant and casual bar, each offering a memorable vibe.
The bar serves casual options like toasties, sandwiches, and light bites, while the dining room features an extensive menu including fish and chips, burgers, and a delicious chicken Caesar salad. My chicken burger was cooked to perfection, paired with a warm brownie and ice cream. The staff’s attentiveness elevated the entire experience.
Final Thoughts
Overall, The Cawdor delivers an unforgettable getaway, blending antique charm with modern luxury and exceptional dining in the heart of Llandeilo.
