The Mandrake announces Joshua Kane as it’s November artist in residence

The renowned designer and tailor will break his 4-year hiatus of showing in London at the Fitzrovia destination as part of its ongoing Artist in Residence series.

The Mandrake, Fitzrovia’s finest five-star boutique hotel and cultural hub, is set to host Joshua Kane for his first London show in over 4 years on Thursday 16th November: ‘The Shipwrecked Tailors’.

The showcase is set to be one of the tailor’s most intimate and unique live experiences to date and follows on from last year’s Dandy Rebels runway (showcased in the USA). The new collection takes inspiration from Kane’s unique story following three nineteenth century London tailors; characters who have presented themselves throughout Kane’s previous iconic collections. Their story runs like a thread through the fabric of the designer’s tailoring mastery, remaining iconic to the brand.

Following the mesmeric catwalk, the collection will be “shipwrecked” in The Mandrake’s Masha Hari Theatre, in a bespoke and immersive display mirroring the show’s standout concept – where between Saturday 18th and Monday 20th November, the public will be able to view the exhibition daily (no booking required).

Joshua will also host private fittings for his exclusive clientele (appointments only), taking place within the Theatre and at Studio 5 where the Tailor will be based and working from during his residence. Open studio hours will be held by Joshua, where in-house guests and admirers of his work will have the chance to see Joshua in action and listen to him speak about his artistry.

The tailor’s long-standing relationship with The Mandrake dates back to the hotel’s very beginning, when he attended the opening party 6 years ago. The synergy between the creative destination, from its aesthetic to its clientele, has a symbiotic link to Kane’s eccentric tailoring and way of life.

Not your typical runway shows, Kane’s presentations stand more as a theatrical performance than a catwalk display. Kane’s shows are made with the intent to provide the ultimate escapism through storytelling, to provoke and touch his audience. For a limited time, the public are invited to experience his mastery first hand.

Kane is quoted: ‘After a 4-year absence of presenting in London I’m so excited to bring the runway experience home… I’ve always been a little bit of a rule breaker and love to challenge the way everyone else does it, keeping people on their toes and excited for what’s next.”

Artistry sits at the forefront of The Mandrake’s philosophy and the Artist in Residence program at the hotel features emerging and established artists and performers, recognised every month. Past residencies have spotlighted a famous tattooist, a talented ballet dancer, a renowned writer, and a popular sculptor, its roster having included names such as Mark Mahoney, A$AP Rocky/Slawn collaborative, Jonas Burgert and Haris Nukem. The hotel is elated to host Mr. Kane as part of its flourishing programme.
