The Spirit of Morzine: Wildlife, Adventure and Mountain Life
A one-of-a-kind encounter with birds of prey right in the heart of the slopes.
Some experiences invite you to discover the mountains in a different light and treat yourself to an unexpected break between runs. In Morzine, in the Nyon area, a unique immersion into the world of birds of prey is on offer thanks to the winter presence of Les Aigles du Léman, a recognised organisation dedicated to raising awareness, conservation and the reintroduction of birds of prey.
Set against a spectacular natural backdrop, eagles, falcons, owls and vultures become ambassadors for a living mountain range, of which they are inhabitants long before they become the subjects of observation. Here, the aim is not only to inspire wonder, but also to educate. Every flight demonstration and every encounter with the falconers offers a deeper understanding of the vital role birds of prey play in Alpine ecosystems, their biology, their behaviour and the conservation challenges they face today.
The most unusual experience is undoubtedly the chance to ski alongside Fletcher, a majestic white-tailed eagle, considered to be Europe’s largest eagle. This descent, punctuated by conversations and observations, offers a unique opportunity to discover this impressive bird as part of a locally run reintroduction programme. A practical way of engaging with biodiversity issues through emotion, encounters and first-hand experience.
In the heart of the Portes du Soleil, in a destination renowned for its wide-open spaces and outdoor culture, this event, unique in the world, adds a dimension to mountain holidays that is at once contemplative, educational and deeply inspiring.
Vallee de la Manche
Away from the hustle and bustle of the slopes, the Erigné Nordic centre, situated in the Manche Valley, offers a space entirely dedicated to outdoor activities. Easily accessible from the village, thanks in particular to the free shuttle buses, it features cross-country ski trails, walking and snowshoe routes, a snow playground around the giant igloo, and a picnic area… It serves as the starting point for numerous winter hikes, particularly towards La Golèse, Bostan or the Col de Cou. A superb spot for exploring the mountains in an exceptional and unspoilt setting!
Elevation Alps
Elevation Alps is an independent luxury chalet company in Morzine offering winter and summer chalet holidays.
The company was founded by Paul Watts in 2015, but the story begins before that…
Paul was in commercial retail property in London, but he had itchy feet and a desire to see more of the world. In 2007, attracted to the Morzine lifestyle, he bought a characterful old farm as a second home. He met his wife Helen in a local bar on New Year’s Day of that year, and by 2010 he and Helen were married, and he moved to Morzine full time.
Paul started working with Sébastien Michaud, co-founder of Elevation Alps, at Morzine Immobilier. They spotted an opportunity to bridge the gap between self-catered and catered ski holidays. Paul and Seb wanted to offer more than a basic holiday rental, but something which offered more freedom than the traditional catered stay. Giving guests the option of adding extra services meant that guests could create their own perfect holiday. And Elevation Alps was born.
Elevation Alps is now 11 years old, and the company’s objective remains the same: allowing guests to create their own bespoke holiday.
