The Vishuis Cottage Collection

The Vishuis, located in the heart of Hermanus Old Town, is a collection of iconic fisherman cottages – heritage buildings that have been restored and modernised to suit the needs of both the independent world and local traveller. The Vishuis’ collection of cottages, comfortable with modern amenities and contemporary décor, is beautifully arranged around an enchanting garden courtyard with a plunge pool. Here you will have memorable experiences, not only with regard to the beauty, luxury, and opulence but also the heritage and culture – it offers so much more than one would expect.

The warm and homely welcome on arrival at the Vishuis was one the best experiences I’ve had with checking-in – we were personally welcomed by the owner Marc, such a friendly and hospitable host. The directions to reach the Vishuis are easy and lead you directly to the front entrance.

The Vishuis is situated on a quiet back road with no passing traffic or trade and conveniently close to the centre of the village. There are three self- contained suites – the Courtyard Suites, and a luxury Cottage with a full kitchen. Each Suite has a large, open plan room with sleeping and lounge area, a kitchenette, a Morso fireplace and television with DSTV, the light and airy luxury cottage has a large open plan living room with a lounge area, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen.

All Hermanus’ facilities are 200m away – this short walk brings you to restaurants – we had the best seafood pasta and refreshing cocktails at one of the sea-facing restaurants – cafés, art galleries, boutiques, book shops galore, the Market Square and Waterfront area; and to Hermanus’ incredible natural beauty areas – the Old Harbour with stunning sea views, the Cliff path, the whale view-sites, and the sculptures on the cliffs – a slightly longer walk (300m) to the natural marine tidal rock pool for an early morning swim. Most of all, I enjoyed the walk along the cliff path – which stretches about 10kms from the New Harbour to Grotto Beach. No, I didn’t do the whole 10kms, I just took in all the mesmerising views, the sea breeze and fresh ocean air, nothing could compare to this experience. It’s a picture-perfect setting for all who love to take pictures.

Our nights were spent in a suite decorated with an African theme, the proudly South African touches giving the room a modern yet vintage feel and a cosy and very effective fireplace that added to the ambience and comfort of this very beautiful luxurious suite. Aside from the furnishings, the local artworks, the super comfy bed and linen, what really stood out for me were the ultra-soft, fluffy, luxurious cotton bath towels. Comfort and luxury, the Vishuis offers a great combination of both and really takes care of it’s guests.

I just let the timeless calm of the blue yonder work its magical charm on me.

The Vishuis provides free private parking. The Cape Town International Airport is 106 km from the property – 90 mins via R43 and N2.
